Dundalk could be home to a new millionaire as last Saturday’s winning lotto ticket was sold in Mace Stores on the Carrick Road. The winning ticket was a €4 quick-pick bought on Saturday and by the time the Dundalk Leader went to print it on Tuesday evening the lotto spokesperson confirmed the prize had not yet been claimed.
While the new millionaire may be celebrating secretly, or is still unaware of their windfall, the staff in Mace and the shop’s owner Annette Quigley are buzzing from the win. Mace Stores was full of energy and colour on a gloomy Tuesday morning as balloons, streamers and banners announced that they were the shop that sold the €2m winning ticket.
“People have been in and out of the shop wondering who it might be but we have no idea.” In cases where lotto winners would like not to be names the lotto refrain from giving out too many details so that the winner can’t be identified and can claim their millions anonymously.
Annette said that she was “absolutely delighted for whoever it is that has won” and expressed her hopes that some of the winnings would be spent in local businesses.
