Excitement builds ahead of St Patrick’s Day parades

It promises to be another memorable St Patrick’s Day locally with the excitement building ahead of the various parades in the area.

The Dundalk parade will start at its usual time of 1pm and this year’s theme is ‘TEAMDundalk’.

Meanwhile, the Blackrock parade which was due to start at 3.30pm has been cancelled due to unforseen circumstances.

The parade in Ardee will start at 3pm and this year, Ardee Concert Band stalwart Kevin O’Brien will lead the parade as Grand Marshal.

Dundalk’s reputation as a town of legendary winners is to be celebrated in this Friday’s parade.

Over 40 groups are expected to line up for the parade which gets underway at 1pm and will travel the length of the town’s main thoroughfare. Thousands are expected to turn out and cheer on all the participants.

As many will know by now Dundalk’s own Paralympics medallist, Eve McCrystal is Grand Marshal for this year’s parade and will be leading a float celebrating Team Dundalk’s winning ways with representatives from many local clubs and associations holding their trophies aloft.
