Gina captures gold as local athletes impress

Dundalk athlete Gina Akpe Moses is the new queen of Irish athletics having captured the country’s first sprint title at U20, U23 or Senior level.  Gina won the 100 metres U20 European title in 11.71 seconds in Grosetto Italy last Friday afternoon much to the delight of her former teammates in St Gerards and Blackrock Athletic clubs.

Born in Nigeria, Gina moved to Dundalk at the age of three and shortly afterwards joined St Gerard’s Athletic Club in Dundalk where her prodigious talent was nurtured and developed. She then made the switch to Blackrock Athletics club where she improved still further under the guidance of Brian Morris.
