Lotto players around Louth are amongst the luckiest in the country when it comes to picking up prizes with the Wee County ranked fifth out of the 26 counties listed by the National Lottery.
The Wee County are most definitely punching above their weight with a total of 76 jackpot winners since the Lotto began in 1988. Those 76 jackpot winners have won a combined total of €89,032,725 which equates to the seventh highest total in the country.
The figures were released by the National Lottery ahead of their 30th anniversary which takes place in April. The very first Lotto draw took place in Ireland on the 16th of April 1988. The only counties with more jackpot winners than Louth are Dublin (572 winners), Cork (172), Galway (92) and Donegal (90).
According to National Lottery Chief Executive Dermot Griffin the sales from Lotto have raised an impressive €2.9bn for good causes all over the country.
“The total amount from sales of Lotto tickets alone which has gone back to good causes throughout the country is a staggering €2.9bn, which has benefitted projects and organisations in the areas of health, sport welfare, education, arts and heritage.”
