Fianna Fáil TD for Louth Declan Breathnach spoke in the Dáil on the Cervical Check Screening Programme and asked not only that the rescreening will be offered to all women involved but also that, particularly for those who are concerned, current smear test samples will be the subject of retests, and that there will be clear individual timelines in this regard.
“I asked the Minister whether he is in a position to give new confidence to the women of Ireland? The core issue is that the public and the women of Ireland deserve answers in respect of this saga.
“The Taoiseach confirmed in the Dáil that if anybody is concerned, they are invited to visit their GP to discuss the situation and the Government will meet the cost of the consultation and the repeat smear test.
“We need clearer communication. I have no doubt that, in her humility and suffering, Vicky Phelan would like us to seek solutions so that no other women will be placed in the situation she finds herself in”, concluded Breathnach.
