Students in St Louis Secondary School will spend the next number of weeks in DkIT as all operations are transferred to the campus following the damage to the school in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A fire was reported to Dundalk Fire Station just before 3am on Saturday morning with two engines from Dundalk and one from Ardee arriving to the scene to tackle the blaze. It is believed a passer-by who was about to partake in the Darkness Into Light fundraiser reported the fire.
A prefab was destroyed in the blaze but the quick response of the emergency services ensured the fire didn’t spread to the main building. The prefab had two rooms, a study hall and technology room.
Acting principal Michelle Dolan thanked the fire services who she said ‘worked tirelessly all night’ to save the main school building. She also assured worried parents and students that there is a procedure in place to deal fairly with pupils who have lost project work during the fire.
“A Garda forensic team are continuing their work this morning and a number of classrooms are out of commission due to health and safety issues with broken glass, electricity & water supplies and some smoke damage.
