Sophie claims national title

Dealgan Boxing Club added another All Ireland champion to their ranks last weekend when young Sophie Curley lifted the Girls 1 31kg Crown.

Sophie belied her tender years by winning the Armagh, Louth, Leinster and now the Irish title in her first year of competition.

She showed her qualitu when it really counted as she displayed all the class you would expect from the Marian Park outfit.

In her semi final Sophie came up against Codie Kilgannon (Ballinacarrow) winning all three rounds. Standing in the way of her first Irish crown Abbie Conventry (Jobstown) proved a tough opponent but the Dealgan girl stuck to her game-plan and in the end was adjudged the winner on all five judges’ cards.

After such a tough season Sophie can look forward to a summer break and get ready to compete on the Dealgan ABC 80th anniversary show against Canada on September 29 in Carnbeg Hotel.
