Faughart Community National School opens its doors

Thursday August 30 was a special day for the young people of Faughart and the Louth and Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB) as Faughart Community National School opened its doors to welcome its pupils for the 2018/2019 academic year.
The school has been in decline for a number of years and its very future hung in the balance over concerns regarding the management of the school. Parents withdrew their children from the school last September. The final pupil was removed from the school in September 2017.
Following talks between the Department of Education and Skills and the Archbishop of Armagh, Eamon Martin during the summer the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, announced that a Community National School would open, under the patronage of LMETB, in time for September on the site of the former Scoil Naisiunta Bhríghde, Faughart.
On Thursday last pupils of the school and their parents/guardians were welcomed by Principal Jacqui McCusker and teaching staff Andreu D’Arcy and Saoirse McDermott. Faughart Community National School (Faughart CNS) will be a multi – denominational, co –educational primary school which will accept students of all faiths and of none.
Over the past few weeks, LMETB have been busy carrying out a range of upgrading works at the school which were co-ordinated and managed by the LMETB Director of Schools, Fiona Kindlon.
Ms. Kindlon stated that this was a very special day for the children attending Faughart CNS and she wished them well for the academic year 2018/2019. Ms Kindlon also outlined that LMETB were delighted with the great interest in the role of principal teacher and teaching staff for the school and she was very much looking forward to working with the extremely competent and capable staff team who were appointed to the school.
New principal Jacqui McCusker joins the leadership team of LMETB from St Oliver’s National School in Carlingford where she was Deputy Principal for nine years having started there in 2008.
During her time in St Oliver’s National School Carlingford, Jacqui has taught a variety of class groups including multi grade class groups and Deputy Principal duties. Jacqui also had responsibility for leading ICT, Digital Learning and STEM subjects within the school and was also responsible for whole school curriculum planning and organisational policy development.
Jacqui places great value on student involvement in extra-curricular activities and plans to develop a wide range of these activities at Faughart Community National School. Jacqui would like to extend a thanks to members of the Faughart community who have given her a warm welcome over the past two weeks upon her appointment to the role of Principal at this the first Community National School in Co. Louth which is under the patronage of LMETB. Together with her teaching staff, Andreu D’Arcy and Saoirse McDermott, Jacqui looks forward to working with pupils in the school and answering any queries parents may have
