Young sport stars continue to shine

It proved to be another memorable weekend on the sporting front as some of Dundalk’s most talented athletes once again made their mark on the national and international stage.
It was a weekend to remember for the rising star of Irish athletics, Israel Olatunde, who successfully defended his Junior National 60m sprint title, while Kate O’Connor regained her Irish indoor pentathlon record in some style.
Meanwhile Patience Jumbo Gula added to her growing reputation when she claimed a silver medal at the National Junior Championships in Athlone, after being narrowly beaten on the line the 60m final.
The celebrations were by no means confined to the athletics track as there was also success for local boxers, Amy Broadhurst and Shauna O’Callaghan.
Amy, from Dealgan BC made more history on Friday evening as she became the first female in this country to win 16 Irish titles.
