More gold for Eve

Dundalk’s golden girl of cycling added another two medals to her collection at the Para-cycling Road World Cup in Belgium. Jenkinstown’s Eve McCrystal along with her tandem partner Katie Dunlevy cemented their status as one of the best pairs in world cycling as they won both the tandem time-trial and the road race over the weekend.
The duo have become masters of their craft since first racing together in 2013 and have now won six world championship gold as well as a gold and silver in the RIO Paraylmpics three years ago. Eve and Katie began their latest World Championships campaign last Friday afternoon in Ostend, Belgium. They took part in the time-trial in the women’s B category and topped the podium ahead of the New Zealand team in second and Great Britain in third.
They followed up that success with another gold medal winning performance in the road race on Sunday finishing ahead of the same duo but with the Great British team finishing in the silver medal position this time around.
In Para-cycling the stoker (Katie George) is the rider with the visual impairment sitting on the back of the bike, with the pilot (Eve) steering the bike.
Both Eve and Katie have been the dominant force on the road in recent years and they are looking in good shape going into 2020 which will see the duo travel to Tokyo for the Paralympics.
Speaking after the time trial success on Friday Eve posted to her social media to thank their coach for getting them ready for the big race.
“Kicking off the season with gold in the TT at the World Cup in Ostend Belgium. Did not know how today was going to go to be honest and we had to dig very deep for this. It’s our first Time Trial since the World Championships last year so it really was going into the unknown with fitness etc. As always thanks to our coach who tells us what to do and we do it. We’re good like that!,” stated Eve.
