Caolan selected on Walker Cup team

Dundalk golfer, Caolan Rafferty, has joined the elite level of amateur golfers after being selected for one of the sport’s most prestigious events.
Following another memorable season, the Dundalk Golf Club member has been chosen to player for the Great Britain & Ireland team to play the USA in the 2019 Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool Golf Club on September 7 and 8.
This is the first time a player from the local club has been selected to play in amateur golf’s greatest team competition. Many members are planning to make the short journey across the Irish Sea to Liverpool to ensure Caolan has plenty of support from his home club when he tees it up against the Americans.
To facilitate members wishing to attend or watch the Walker Cup on television, the final Golfer of the Year event, The Cochrane Cup, which had been scheduled for September 8 will now be played on September 22.
Among Caolan’s achievements this year were winning the West of Ireland title and taking part alongside the world’s elite at the American Amateur Championship which is being played at the world famous Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
