Large crowds attend start of St Gerard’s Novena

St Gerard’s Novena commenced yesterday (Tuesday) in Dundalk and once again large crowds were in attendance for the opening ceremonies.
The Novena, which is one of the most popular traditions in the region, will continue daily until Wednesday October 16.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘Called to be Saints; Living the Beatitudes, and it has an added significance in that it will be the first to be overseen by new rector, Fr Noel Kehoe, while it will also be an opportunity to showcase the extensive renovations that have been completed at the church.
The guest speakers are among the many reasons why people attend in such large numbers and this year, they include Anne Walsh from Canada, while Jane Mellet from Trocaire will also be addressing the congregation.
Another visitors from overseas is Fr Kevin O’Neill from the United States, while Fr Michael Kelleher and Fr Gerry Moloney will also attend the Novena.
The Blessing of the Babies is one of the highlights of the nine-day Novena and this year it will be held on Sunday October 13th at 2.30pm. Meanwhile the Healing Mass with anointing of the sick will take place on Saturday October 12 at 11.30am and 2.30pm.
There will be a candlelit Mass every evening at 10.30pm, and 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The Novena takes place from Tuesday October 8 to Wednesday October 16 at the following times: Weekdays – 7am, 9.30am, 11.30am, 1.10pm, 2.30pm, 4.30pm, 6pm, 7.30pm, 9pm, 10.30pm. Saturday & Sunday: 7am, 8am, 9.30am, 11am, 12.30pm, 4.30pm, 6pm, 7.30pm, 9pm.
