Gardaí warning over fireworks dangers

Gardaí in Dundalk have discovered a large quantity of fireworks following a search at a checkpoint last weekend. This is the second time in a week that gardaí have recovered illegal fireworks having also seized a significant amount from a car last Tuesday.
Following the find Gardaí warned of the dangers posed by fireworks while issuing a reminder that there are severe criminal penalties that apply for anybody caught with them.
“In the run up to Halloween a reminder about the dangers posed by fireworks.
Fireworks are not only dangerous there are severe criminal penalties that apply.
It is an offence to throw or direct any ignited firework at a person or property and a fine of up to €10,000 can apply.
“Community Policing and Roads Policing Units in Dundalk are targeting the unlawful possession of fireworks and searches will continue up to Halloween,” concluded the statement.
