Local musicians play in the National Concert Hall

Three Dundalk students who are members of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland were busy this week with concerts in the national concert hall in Dublin on Sunday evening and Galway on Saturday evening. Left to right
Cillian Hennessy (Colaiste Ris cello), Fionnghuala Drumgoole (St. Louis Dundalk violin) and Dearbhla Coggans (Colaiste Ris Double Bass) all performed over the weekend under the baton of Gearóid Grant who has been involved with the orchestra since 1980.
While most secondary school students were binge watching Netflix or chilling with friends these three local musicians were putting in eight hours of rehearsals a day in Kilkenny at the NYOI Christmas workshop. The three, all string players, performed a varied programme including Elgar’s Enigma Variations and followed in a long tradition of Dundalk musicians who are members of the orchestra. Cillian’s mother Orla was herself a member when she was younger.
