Dundalk manager Filippo Giovagnoli will lead his troops out in Tallaght this Thursday evening as the Lilywhites kick off their Europa League Group B campaign against Norwegian champions Molde.
The Italian who joined the club in August helped Dundalk qualify for the lucrative group stages by negotiating three qualifier rounds including a 3-1 victory over Faroe Island side Ki Klaksvik.
This Thursday’s game will kick off at 5.55pm and will be shown free to air on Virgin Media TV. Dundalk will be looking to get off to a good start against the Norwegians with tough games ahead against English Premier League side Arsenal and Austrian’s Rapid Vienna.
This will be Dundalk’s second time in the Europa Group stages and Dundalk fans will be hoping that this time around will be as memorable as four years ago when Dundalk picked up four points under Stephen Kenny. Dundalk manager Filippo Giovagnoli was in an upbeat mood recently when asked if Dundalk had any chance of picking up points in the group stages.
“Anything is possible. I am the proof that anything is possible in life. Now we have nothing to lose. We got four points the last time we were in the Europa League so let’s try and beat that record and maybe get five this time,” stated the Italian.
Dundalk have been busy in recent days playing Bohs last Friday evening in Oriel Park before travelling to Derry on Monday night to play Derry. The Molde game will be Dundalk’s third game in six days and Giovagnoli will be hoping to use his squad to ensure players are fresh for what will be a huge game for the club.
