Local professional golfer Brendan Lawlor has enjoyed a fantastic start to 2021 with the Louth Village native signing a new long-term contract with Niall Horan’s Modest Golf management company as well as signing a new sponsorship deal with sportswear giants adidas.
The deal with adidas was made official just three weeks ago with Brendan expressing his delight upon linking up with the company.
“I’ve been wearing their stuff on tour for a while now and it was great to get talking to them and sign off an official deal. I love the brand and I cannot thank them enough for getting on board and helping me push for greater inclusivity in the game of golf,” stated Brendan.
“Brendan shares our same passion and ambition in making golf a more inclusive sport,” said Andrew Law, managing director adidas Golf EMEA. “We see him as a great champion for the sport in that regard because he truly is an amazing athlete.”
Brendan’s impressive list of sponsors now include TaylorMade Golf, ISPS Handa, American Golf, Synergy Investments and Kinetica Sports. He is also an ambassador for Carton House Golf Course in Ireland.
The 23-year old has made it his mission to put disability golf on the map in recent years and last August he made history by becoming the first player with a disability to compete on the European Tour at the ISPS Handa UK Championship at the Belfry.
Brendan, a scratch golfer, was born with Ellis van-Creveld Syndrome, a rare bone growth disorder that leads to shorter limbs. He has been making waves on the local golf circuit for a number of years but his star has shone even brighter since joining the EDGA tour in 2018. Having won three tournaments on that tour during his debut season his potential was seen by Modest! Golf Management who snapped him up in September 2019 as Lawlor officially turned professional. Since then his remarkable rise in the golfing world has continued at pace culminating in last August’s Belfry appearance where he made headlines all over the world.
Last month Modest! Golf Management announced that Brendan had put pen to paper on a brand new long-term deal with company director Niall Horan describing the Louth Village man as ‘living proof that no barrier is too great when it comes to sport’.
“Brendan truly reflects everything and more about what Modest! Golf stands for,” says company Director, Niall Horan. “Brendan’s hard-working attitude is infectious and he’s living proof that no barrier is too great when it comes to sport. Not only is he a brilliant golfer but he’s a great guy who we love working with and we’re excited to support him on his journey,” stated Niall.
Brendan, himself was understandably delighted to have signed on the dotted line and thanked Modest! Golf for their help in making his dreams come true.
“I am so grateful to Modest! Golf for all they have done for me,” said the 23-year old. “They have helped change my life by allowing me to play golf full-time while traveling the world and promoting a message that I am so passionate about. There is a need for greater inclusivity in the game but the message is getting out there that sport is for everyone and I’m excited to see what the future holds,” explained Brendan.
