Friends and family of recently deceased Bernie Kelly gathered outside her house in Meadow Grove on Monday afternoon as her daughter Eimear planted a rose in her memory.

Bernie, originally from Muirhevnamór, was a hugely popular with her neighbours in Meadow Grove where she moved to six years ago. Representatives from Louth County Council and Cuidigh Linn were also in attendance for the ceremony. Bernie was heavily involved in community work and was on the Board of Management of Cuidigh Linn since 2007. Bernie was also involved with Ait Na nDaoine and was one of the founders of the Holy Family Credit Union. She was well known for her tireless work in her local community.

According to friend and neighbour Tommy Reenan, Bernie was a hugely popular resident in Meadow Grove and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

“Bernie was a lovely lady and she was instrumental in helping us set up the Meadow Grove Tidy Towns group which she was secretary of. She was brilliant at getting things done and in her six years down here she did so much to improve the area. She loved being out in the garden and loved flowers, especially roses, so we wanted to do something for her today to keep her in our memories,” stated Tommy.

Eimear Kelly, a daughter of Bernie’s planted the Rose as friends and family looked on including Bernie’s husband Davy and her Eimear’s daughter Mya.
