Harvey Norman to re-deploy local workers

By Niamh Kirk

Up to 20 jobs in the Dundalk outlet of Harvey Norman could be affected by reforms announced by the company last week. In a statement released last week the company said that it would re-format the store along with two stores in Northern Ireland and will now focus on furniture and bedding.

The company say that nationally up to 40 jobs could be affected by the recent decisions which include the closure of the Mullingar outlet. They do hope that a significant portion of the people affected can be redeployed within the organisation as there are 18 new jobs being created by the company’s expansion and there are a further 14 positions available. The consultation with staff has already begun.

The company are pursuing a “Fit For Purpose” philosophy and push on online sales.

Harvey Norman Ireland’s Chief `Executive, Blaine Callard, said “Our overall revenue in Ireland is growing, with furniture and bedding offering significant growth opportunities and this is reflected by the expansion in Blanchardstown and the re-formatting of Dundalk and our two Northern Ireland stores.

“Our move into online is about giving our customers convenience and choice about how they buy from us, it is all part of our Omni channel strategy.”
