O’Mahonys celebrate Intermediate Championship win

Sean O’Mahonys are celebrating a return to senior football after scoring a dramatic victory in the Intermediate Championship Final on Sunday afternoon.

In front of a packed crowd at Clan na Gael Park, the Point Road men held their nerve in the closing minutes to see off the challenge of St Fechins.

Conor Finnegan was the scoring hero for the O’Mahonys as he landed three late points to put an end to the Termonfeckin side’s comeback and secure a famous 1-11 to 1-8 win.

In what proved to be an entertaining contest, the Dundalk side looked to be well in control three minutes into the second half when a Conor Crawley goal had them seven points to the good.

However, the Fechins staged an impressive comeback and drew level to leave the result in the balance entering the last five minutes.

It was then that the Brendan Nordon managed team showed their battling qualities as their greater determination saw them claim the decisive scores to secure a deserved win.

While Finnegan was named Man-of-the-Match it really was an excellent all-round team effort that saw the O’Mahonys through in the end.

After the game, the winning captain, Pat O’Brien, accepted the Seamus Flood Cup and signal the start of a night of celebration on the Quay.
