Shock at passing of very popular Dundalk Barman

One of Dundalk’s most popular barmen, Aaron Callan, known as AC to his many friends, died suddenly at his home in Knockbridge in the early hours of Monday morning.

The 44 year old, formerly of Avondale Park, ran and managed Callans Bar on Church Street alongside his wife Michelle. The popular couple took over the premises formerly known as Sean’s Tavern in 2022 and the Church Street bar has proved hugely popular with patrons. Aaron was from the well known and well liked Callan family in Dundalk with his grandfather Francie a well known player for Dundalk FC during he 1950’s and 60’s.

Aaron was a past-pupil of St. Mary’s College in Dundalk before moving to London in the early 2000’s. He returned to his home town where he worked in PayPal before meeting the love of his life Michelle who he featured with on RTE’s Don’t Tell The Bride. The couple got married in 2015 and would later start a business together when they opened Callan’s Bar on Church Street.

A quick look through the condolences page on RIP.ie will attest to how popular AC was with a smile or a bit of craic never too far away when he was around. A very talented snooker and pool player, Aaron often ran competitions in his bar and when the pool was over he could be known to belt out a Garth Brooks or Elvis number up on stage to get the craic going. He will be sorely missed by his many friends around Dundalk.

Aaron is survived by his heart-broken wife Michelle, daughter Rachel, granddaughter Aoibhe Kate, sister Nicola, brother Mark, his mother Margaret, grandfather Francie, grandmother Gertie, sister in law Karen Maguire, brother in law Mark Maguire, aunts Bernie, Siobhan, Elaine, Shelly, uncles Francis and John, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Aaron will repose at his home (A91C925) from 12pm to 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday. Removal from his home on Friday morning at 10.40am walking to St Mary’s Church, Knockbridge arriving for Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.
